Xabi Alonso has lauded Real Madrid's collective sacrifice after their Club World Cup win, highlighting Vinicius Junior’s all-round game.

Real Madrid head coach Xabi Alonso expressed satisfaction with his team's performance following their 3-0 victory over Salzburg at Lincoln Financial Field.

The Spanish manager particularly highlighted the collective defensive effort, emphasising that "everyone's sacrifice was important" for the team's success in modern football.

Vinicius Junior was instrumental, breaking the deadlock in the 40th minute with a precise left-footed shot.

The Brazilian winger then provided a spectacular backheel assist for Federico Valverde to double Real Madrid’s lead just before half-time and Gonzalo Garcia sealed the comprehensive win in the 84th minute with a clinical finish.

Alonso praises team, lauds Vini Jr.’s defensive shift

Alonso reserved special praise for Vini Jr., commending not only his goal and assist but also his significant defensive contribution, stating that the Brazilian's comprehensive performance allowed the team to play more cohesively.

“There's still a long way to go,” said the Real Madrid boss. “We're starting a new era, and we're making changes in the middle of a demanding competition.

“During this time, we've been clear about our strategy, although there's still a lot to improve on.

"Vini Jr. had a great game. I'm not just talking about his goal and assist, but also his defensive sacrifice, knowing how to get involved, not getting caught out...

“That allowed us to play closely together, and in attack, he had more freedom, getting into the area well and linking up with Gonzalo, who wears down the centre-backs.

“He came away feeling very positive, as did I. However, we have to keep going because there's still a long way to go."

What’s next for Real Madrid?

The Spanish giants will face Serie A heavyweights Juventus in the round of 16 on Tuesday, July 1, with the victor progressing to face Borussia Dortmund or Monterrey in the last eight.
