Former Real Madrid and Barcelona star Luis Figo has revealed the one player who could challenge Ousmane Dembele and Lamine Yamal for the 2025 Ballon d'Or.

Portugal legend Luis Figo has predicted a surprise contender for this year’s Ballon d’Or, a potential three-horse race alongside the two favorites, PSG’s Ousmane Dembele and Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal.

Dembele is currently the frontrunner after leading PSG to their first-ever Champions League title, but Figo, who won the award in 2000, sees another name in the mix.

Speaking to AS, the 52-year-old former Inter Milan star highlighted Vitinha’s standout season for club and country as a reason he could challenge the top dogs.

“Several players deserve the trophy based on their season. My opinion is irrelevant; the person voting is the one who decides. But I like players like Lamine, Vitinha, who has won everything this season, Dembele, who has done very well too.

"It depends on whether you're looking at individual performance for the Ballon d'Or or the titles you've won,” Figo said.

“It depends on personal taste and what you focus on when awarding this important award. Nothing outside of what people talk about. He's [Vitinha] on the list. He has a chance of winning, but, as I said, it depends on who votes and, of course, what you focus on during the season.”

Vitinha played a key role in Luis Enrique’s PSG side, which dominated domestically and in Europe, while also helping Portugal secure their second Nations League title.

The former Wolves midfielder has also been outstanding at the ongoing FIFA Club World Cup and could lead PSG to another title to put the cherry on an outstanding 2025/26 season.
