Grealish reveals how Rooney inspired his transfer decision
England international Jack Grealish has chosen the No.18 kit number for his season-long loan at Everton, and he explained how two English football legends, Paul Gascoigne and Wayne Rooney, inspired that choice.
What Grealish said
The Newcastle legend wore 18 in his two seasons at Everton (2000/2001 and 2001/2002). Rooney then inherited the kit and wore it for three seasons before joining Manchester United.
Grealish typically wears the No.10, but that kit is currently owned by talented attacker Ilman Ndiaye. The former Aston Villa man opted to go for 18 at Everton, revealing his influences and that he got Rooney's blessings.
"There is a reason for [choosing number 18]. There were other numbers, but my two favourite English players ever are Wayne Rooney and Paul Gascoigne, and I know they both wore number 18 here,” he said, per Goal.
"So, as soon as I knew this deal was close, I had a look and number 18 was free, so that was perfect for me, and it was the only number I was going to take from that point.

"I spoke to Wayne [Rooney] before I came here and I mentioned that to him – about the number 18 – so I hope he's happy as well!"
Grealish to Everton
The winger's game time steadily suffered following that treble-winning season, starting only seven league matches. He was expected to leave Manchester City this summer to rekindle his career, and Everton moved swiftly and secured his signing on loan.
Manchester City are already working on a replacement, and as Pulse Sports reported, they are eyeing a move for Real Madrid's Rodrygo.
