Former Barcelona scout Bojan Krkic Sr. has discouraged Barcelona from signing Luis Diaz, urging them to commit to signing Marcus Rashford instead.
The 62-year-old served as a member of the Barcelona scouting team for a decade and is the father of former Barcelona forward Bojan Krkic Jr., who is now a member of the Barcelona sporting department.
Barcelona’s interest in Diaz
The Blaugrana were famously in the market for a winger last summer and were intently linked to Nico Williams after it was clear they could not afford their first choice, Rafael Leao.
They failed to land Williams either, having failed to guarantee the Spaniard that they could register his before the start of the league season.
They went into the season trusting Raphinha at left wing, and despite his record-breaking season, the Blaugrana are still keen on signing a left winger. Sporting director Deco is reportedly a big fan of Liverpool’s Luis Diaz, who is valued at €85 million, according to TransferMarkt.
What Krkic said
Krkic, who is an expert on player profiling, acknowledged Diaz’s quality but added that he can be quite inconsistent. Hence, he urged the Blaugrana to move for Rashford instead.
"Luis Díaz is a great player, but he lacks consistency in performance. If I were at Barça, I wouldn't sign him,” he said. per Cadena Ser. “He's a player who works wonders for you and then disappears for three games. Or he gives you a brutal half-hour and disappears.
"I'd sign Rashford before Luis Díaz. Manchester City is in terrible shape, and financially too. Without a doubt, if I have to choose between Rashford and Díaz, I'd go with Rashford, who gives me the option to play as a number 9.”
As Pulse Sports reported, Rashford is available on the market for €40 million this summer. While Aston Villa are keen on making his loan permanent, the England international is believed to be pushing for a move to Barcelona.
