Nigeria's Gift Orban was on the pitch for only 44 minutes as KAA Gent hosted Eupen in the Belgian league.

Nigeria’s Gift Orban has received his first-ever red card after KAA Gent came from behind to beat Eupen.

Orban was sent off following an off-the-ball incident during Gent’s narrow 2-1 win at home on Sunday evening.

It’s been a difficult campaign so far for the Nigeria Super Eagles forward, who left the pitch without scoring again for Gent.

The 20-year-old started his sixth match of the season but was unable to finish it following an early shower from the referee.

With Eupen leading thanks to Milos Pantovic’s 27th-minute goal, things went from bad to worse as Orban got himself sent off after he hit an Eupen defender on the face.

He was subsequently given his marching order, in what has now become his first-ever career red card.

Before he left the pitch, Orban had created the most chances (2) in the game but had no attempt before the red card.

With the latest setback, the Gent star has now gone six matches without scoring a goal and is expected to miss his team’s next three matches.

Gent survive

Meanwhile, despite having played the second half with a numerical disadvantage, the home side dug deep to complete a stunning comeback.

Two second half goals from Sven Kums and Tarik Tissoudali inspired the 10-man hosts to a come-from-behind victory.
