One Manchester United star who missed the 2021 Europa League final loss to Villarreal has spoken of his desire to end on the winning team against Tottenham Hotspur.
Manchester United defender Harry Maguire has spoken on the club’s season ahead of Wednesday’s Europa League final against Tottenham Hotspur.
The Englishman acknowledged the immense importance of the final for everyone associated with the club, particularly the supporters after a disappointing season.
However, the defender stressed that the team approaches the game with the same mentality as any other, mirroring their preparation for the semi-final against Bilbao.

Maguire's final ambition and past regrets

Europa League final: Ruben Amorim handed several injury boosts ahead of Tottenham Hotspur showdown
Manchester United’s Europa League final preparations took an interesting turn as three previously sidelined stars trained on Tuesday.
“Listen, finals are finals. You know they can change on moments or anything,” said the former Man Utd captain. “You need that little bit of luck maybe. We could perform really well on the day and get beat, or we could perform badly and win.
“But for sure we’ve got to make sure that we put the percentages in our favour in terms of turning up, giving absolutely everything and performing on the day.”

Maguire, who missed the 2021 Europa League final loss to Villareal, then reflected on that year’s absence.
“There was talk at the time of making it, but I was nowhere near fit for that final,” said the defender. “I pushed and pushed but I was still struggling to jog, never mind being able to go and play a final.
“Missing the Villarreal one was a big one for me. I was captain of the club at the time and a big part of that team.
“Maybe the result would have been different if I’d been in the team. That’s what I felt.”
Defeating Spurs on Wednesday will guarantee the English side a place in next season’s Champions League.
What’s next for Man Utd?
Ruben Amorim’s team will host on Aston Villa at Old Trafford on the final day on May 25, four days after facing Ange Postecoglou’s team in Europe.
