The Marc Guéhi saga has finally reached its conclusion. Oliver Glasner has openly addressed the situation surrounding his captain, who was on the verge of a move to Liverpool.

The transfer ultimately fell through in the final moments of the summer window, largely due to the manager's intervention, as he stood firm with the chairman to prevent Guéhi's departure.

The Eagles' boss made some revealing statements, asserting that, contrary to English press reports, he never threatened to leave the club if the chairman allowed Guéhi to be sold. "I never threatened to leave the club, never," Glasner said.

"At the end of many discussions, it was the chairman who asked me: 'Oliver, do you think we can manage the season if we sell Marc [Guéhi]?' I replied, "Honestly, we can't manage that in the short term,'"

"If we buy a fantastic 19-year-old player with around 1000 minutes in the league and sell our captain with around 15,000 minutes in the Premier League, I don't think we can manage the situation in the short term. And if we have three centre-backs and with our schedule, and if we have an injury to all three defenders, I think it's very, very risky.

"If you want this scenario for Crystal Palace and you don't care about it, sell Marc [Guéhi]. If you don't want that, then we have to keep him. And then he decided that we keep him," he explained, also praising his player's character.

"I didn't need to threaten anyone. There were no tensions between the chairman and me. It was just a discussion about sport, and he decided against the money and in favor of Crystal Palace's sporting perspective.

"Again, huge credit to the chairman and the same huge credit to Marc, who handled the situation very well," he stated, once again refuting English press reports and assuring that Guéhi will continue to wear the armband.

"We [Guéhi] spoke on deadline day. We spoke the day after deadline day, when he was already with the England squad, and he was always very honest. Everyone could see how he played for England, that he is 100% focused, the same here.

"And it was written that he stepped down from the captaincy. Nothing could be further from the truth. He will be our captain as long as he is here because he is an excellent player, has an incredible personality, and is very charismatic. That's the truth."
