Barcelona rule Yamal out due to injury ahead of UCL clash against Newcastle

Barcelona have confirmed that teenage sensation Lamine Yamal is injured and will miss their LALIGA clash against Valencia. Reports from Spain suggest he could also miss their Champions League opening game against Newcastle at St James's Park next Thursday. 

The 18-year-old has an injury scare during international duty with Spain when reports surfaced revealing that he has back discomfort. However, he played both matches in the window and looked sharp. 

He also partook in Barcelona's first training session after the international break. The Blaugrana have now announced that he is no longer able to train or play, as he is experiencing discomfort in his pelvic area. 

“Lamine Yamal is experiencing discomfort in the pubic area and is currently unable to train or play. His return to training will depend on how his condition evolves.”

Lamine Yamal’s absence will be sorely felt, as the Spain international has been the Blaugrana’s main attacker this season, leading in goals and assists. 

Meanwhile, former Chelsea and Germany midfielder Michael Ballack has named Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona as the two standout favourites to lift the UEFA Champions League this season, while dismissing the chances of heavyweights Manchester City, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich.
