Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick echoed Deco’s opinion on the position Barcelona needed to fill, stating that he had a meeting with the sporting director on improving the team for next season.
What Flick said
Speaking in the pre-match press conference for their final league game of the season against Athletic Club, Flick was asked about the specific position they plan on filling in the transfer window.
He said that they were looking to sign a left winger and that he had informed Deco that the position was one they needed to fill to strengthen their squad.
“With Deco, we talked about the fact that in the left winger position, we perhaps didn’t have many options in the last few games. We have to bring more options there and more quality. That is already Deco’s job,” Flick said per GFNS.
The players in consideration
Meanwhile, Deco is keen on landing Liverpool winger Luis Diaz and, according to Spanish sources, has made him the prime transfer target for the summer.
Deco’s admiration for the Colombian was well known within Barcelona circles, but recently he publicly admitted interest.
“We like Luis Diaz, we like Rashford… And we like other wingers too,” he replied when asked to confirm their interest in the former Porto star. “We can't talk about players under contract with other clubs.”
