Real Madrid beat Leganes to enter the semi-final of the Copa del Rey.

Real Madrid advanced past Leganes to move to the semi-final round of the Copa del Rey thanks to a late striker from 20-year-old striker Gonzalo Garcia.

Los Blancos took a two-goal lead and seemed coasting to victory before a second-half brace from Juan Cruz spoilt the party. With the game seemingly headed for extra-time, Gonzalez scored to hand Madrid the win.

Key match details

Leganes burst out of the blocks with a flurry of early chances. Diego García's sharp effort was repelled by Andriy Lunin, while Valentin Rosier squandered a gilt-edged opportunity from close range.

Real Madrid, fortunate to still be on level terms, seized the initiative against the run of play in the 18th minute. Luka Modric produced a moment of brilliance, slotting a precise finish past Juan Soriano after Rodrygo's excellent work down the flank.

The visitors doubled their advantage just seven minutes later, as Endrick pounced on a loose ball in the box to sweep home from eight yards. However, Leganes refused to throw in the towel, and they were handed a lifeline when Jacobo Ramon was penalised for handball.

Former Real Betis man Juan Cruz stepped up to the spot and confidently dispatched the penalty into the bottom corner, notching his first goal since early November.

Federico Valverde and Endrick spurned chances for Real, and their profligacy was soon punished. Cruz latched onto Darko Brasanac's cut-back and unleashed a low strike that deflected beyond Lunin, drawing Leganes level.

It was Real Madrid who had the last laugh, however, with Brahim Diaz's inviting delivery that was met by substitute García, who directed a brilliant header into the corner for his first senior goal, securing Real's spot in the final four in dramatic fashion.
