Portugal continued their Euro 2024 qualifying campaign after winning their first game against Liechtenstein. A Selecao were devastatingly ruthless against their hosts, putting six past them.

How it happened

There was only one outcome anticipated from this game, a Portugal win. The only thing that was uncertain was by how much.

The visitors started brightly and took the lead inside nine minutes when Ronaldo got on the end of a Nuno Mendes delivery.

Joao Felix made it two in the 15th minute of the game, combining brilliantly with Bernardo Silva, who went from provider to scorer for the third, finishing cheekily only three minutes after setting up the second.

Ronaldo grabbed his brace against Luxembourg, who are one of his favourite opponents, striking brilliantly past Anthony Morris to put Portugal four up.

Portugal continued to press for more goals, and after a host of changes, including bringing on Raphael Leao, Roberto Martinez's men further improved the scoreline.

Leao came on to devastating effect, setting up fellow substitute Otavio in the 77th minute of the game. He went on to win a penalty in the 85th minute, but fired the resulting penalty into the hands of the goalkeeper.

However, he would not be denied for too long. Ruben Neves set him up in the 88th minute of the game for Portugal's sixth.

The win keeps Portugal at the top of the qualifying group with a healthy +10 goal difference.
