Onyeka Okongwu in action as Trae Young hits dagger for Atlanta Hawks to force Game 6 against the Boston Celtics.

With just 1.8 seconds remaining, Trae Young hit a game-winning 3-pointer to give the Atlanta Hawks a 119-117 victory against the Boston Celtics in Game 5.

Boston had a 13-point advantage midway through the fourth quarter but lost what might have been the championship game.

The Celtics must now win Game 6 in Atlanta in order to avoid playing a decisive Game 7 at TD Garden.

Trae Young masterclass

Trae Young made a deep, game-winning 3-pointer from above the top of the key to help the Atlanta Hawks defeat the Boston Celtics. Trae Young finished with 38 points.

Atlanta played without Dejounte Murray, who was given a one-game suspension for tripping referee Gediminas Petraitis with his chest as he exited the floor following the conclusion of Game 4. John Collins scored 22 points in his place.

For the Celtics, Jaylen Brown scored 35 points and Jayson Tatum added 19, but they were outscored 37-25 in the final frame.

With 7.3 seconds left, Derrick White gave the Celtics the lead 117-116, giving the Hawks one final chance.

Young received the ball in the backcourt and dribbled into the front court, where he swished a 29-footer over Brown. In the contest, the Hawks made 19 3-pointers.

With 0.5 seconds left, the Celtics had another opportunity after misplacing their original inbounds pass, but Tatum's fading 3-point attempt was unsuccessful.

Onyeka Okongwu shines for Hawks

American professional basketball player of Nigerian descent Onyeka Okongwu was in action for the Hawks against the Celtics.

The youngster was part of the Hawks second rotation, and contributed nne points, one block, one steal, three assists and four rebounds.

In 27 minutes poof action, Okongwu made four of his six shots including one from three point range with a positive net rating.

Speaking about his performance Young said, “There’s a few things, I don’t know if I want to say it just because things get around, get back.

“There’s some things I’ve seen, just how they’re guarding me. That’s how every series is: The more you play a team, the more you start to get a feel in how they’re guarding you and how you need to attack them.”
