Nigerian representatives Rivers Hoopers start 2024 BAL with a 77-68 win against AS Dounaes.

Nigerian champions Rivers Hoopers defeated AS Douanes 77-68, at the Dakar Arena to start their 2024 Basketball African League campaign on a positive note.

Since their debut in 2021, the Port Harcourt-based club has won the competition twice.

Ogor Odaudu, the head coach of the Hoopers, began the game with Will Perry, Kelvin Amayo, Peter Olisemeka, Devine Eke, and John Wilkins as his starting five.

As last year's finalists, AS Douanes shown their mettle by establishing their supremacy early on and building a dominating lead in the first quarter, which they ultimately ended 23–18.

Even though the second quarter's play was more evenly distributed, the Hoopers—led by the impressive Eke—overcame Douanes 19–16. The Hoopers won 21-20 in the fourth quarter, but the Kingsmen kept up their pace, opening a 10-point lead over AS Douanes in the third quarter (19-9).

Eke led the Hoopers in scoring with 31 points, 12 rebounds, and 3 assists during the game. Perry, who finished with 15 points, seven rebounds, and three assists, came after him.

With an outstanding performance, Wilkins added 14 points and three assists.

The Hoopers' next game at the Dakar Arena is against Rwanda's Armée Patriotique.
