The Portland Trailblazers have been disappointing this season and currently have a 32-40 record which puts them all but out of playoff contention

Portland Trailblazers star point-guard Damian Lillard has suggested he could be forced to shut down for the season with the team falling off as the campaign reaches the most important phase.

NBA expert Chris Haynes reported that Lillard has a handful of games left before the Blazers shut him down and allow him to fully heal from right calf tightness.

Dame Lillard on Portland's disappointing season

After the Blazers lost 117-102 to the Los Angeles Clippers in front of their home fans, Lillard offered an honest take on the situation surrounding the Blazers season.

“We’ve pretty much fallen out of the race for the 10th spot, unless we got out there and win every game,” Lillard said

“I just love to play, I love the competition and I haven’t been ready to give that up. But it does come a point in time when do you stop putting your competitive nature out front.”

The Blazers are three games behind the Los Angeles Lakers for the final spot in the NBA Play-In Tournament and will also have to overtake the New Orleans Pelicans and Utah Jazz.

When the franchise was still hovering around .500 just a few weeks ago, the idea that Lillard would sit out the remainder of the season was unimaginable.

Perhaps now is the right time to take this approach.
