He was miles ahead of Americans Jayden Davis, who settled for the silver medal in 46.08s, and Sidi Njie won bronze in 46.29s.

Okon set a personal best of 20.54 seconds in the 200 meters at the South African national under-20 championships in Pretoria in May 2024.

He also achieved a personal best time of 45.41 seconds in the 400 meters at the ACNW Track and Field League in Potchefstroom that same month.
