While acknowledging the weight of expectation on the reigning African Footballer of the Year, Adams was adamant that the tam cannot afford to depend only on Osimhen.

“Victor [Osimhen] is the man for us, and we all know that, but everyone puts in their own shift. It takes the goalkeeper to save goals, it takes the defender to defend, so it’s a whole teamwork.”

Adams, who has quickly become a fan favorite since his debut goal earlier this year, expressed his own readiness to take the pressure off Osimhen by contributing directly to the scoreline whenever called upon.

“Victor [Osimhen] will give us goals, I will give goals and we win."

Despite Nigeria being heavy favorites for the opening match, the Sevilla forward refused to overlook the threat posed by the Taifa Stars. He maintained that the three-time champions are staying grounded, focusing purely on their own tactical discipline rather than the reputation of their opponents.

“I think every opponent is tough because they come to win as well, as well as we do,” he explained.

“We’re completely focused on ourselves and we try to get as much points as possible to go through the group, and we see what happens.”
