He is now expected to be absent for a large chunk of the remainder of the season with an operation planned.
A statement from Tottenham reads:
"We can confirm that Yves Bissouma is to undergo surgery on Friday to repair a stress fracture to his left ankle.
"A timeframe for his return will be determined after surgery.
"He will begin rehabilitation with our medical staff as soon as possible."
Spurs were rocked on Wednesday by the news of goalkeeper Hugo Lloris being sidelined for a similar timeframe with knee ligament damage, leaving Fraser Forster to deputise in the meantime.
Bissouma impressed at Brighton under Graham Potter to earn a move to north London, though he hasn't managed to replicate that form thus far at Spurs.
