‘You have in Lookman’ - Moreno reveals how Super Eagles star will change Atletico Madrid’s gameplay
The versatile forward's move to the Riyadh Air Metropolitano is a major acquisition for the Rojiblancos, who acted decisively to secure him ahead of interest from Fenerbahçe.
The transfer concludes a lengthy saga with his former club, Atalanta, that spanned a season and a half.
Lookman, a prominent figure in African football, is expected to bolster Atletico's attacking lineup with his proven quality and experience.
Moreno speaks on Lookman’s impact
Former Venezuelan international Alejandro Moreno believes Lookman provides a new attacking dimension that Diego Simeone's squad has often lacked.
Moreno highlighted the Nigerian's ability to disrupt defences with his pace, directness, and skill in one-on-one situations.
"We can talk about Rodrigo Mendoza and Obed Vargas if you so desire, but really the headliner in terms of the winter transfer is Ademola Lookman," Moreno stated on ESPN FC.
"And the reason as to why he is important and will be important for this team is that he changes the profile of this group offensively."
"You think about what Atletico Madrid has become at times, it's sort of Julian Alvarez kind of running around and then the big figure of Alexander Sorloth, who is not a guy who is going to beat anybody with speed."
In his debut against Real Betis, Lookman immediately showcased his blistering pace, exploiting defensive gaps as the opposition pushed for a goal.
"It changes who they are offensively because now you have opportunities for counterattacks that were available before only through Giuliano Simeone," Moreno explained.
"Now in combination play... You have in Lookman, a guy who can run in behind and you can get a counterattack opportunity that wasn't part of the makeup offensively of Atletico Madrid."
