Chelsea legend John Terry has urged Cole Palmer to hunt down and exceed Diego Costa’s goal tally on the club’s all-time Premier League scoring chart.

The former Blues captain took to social media to celebrate Palmer’s masterclass, a clinical hat-trick during Chelsea’s high-scoring victory over Wolves, followed by another goal in the 2-2 draw against Leeds.

Those three goals against Wolves saw the 23-year-old leapfrog Terry himself in the record books. Palmer now sits in eighth place on Chelsea's all-time Premier League scorers list with 45 goals in just 85 appearances, an incredible strike rate for a player who often operates from midfield.

In a TikTok video, Terry was quick to poke fun at his own record while showering the England international with praise.

“Congratulations, Cole Palmer, for surpassing John Terry in Chelsea’s all-time Premier League goals record list,” Terry said. “John Terry knocked down to ninth position. Incredible."

Terry didn't stop at the congratulations; he immediately pointed Palmer toward the next name on the list: the ferocious Spanish striker Diego Costa.

Costa, who was instrumental in two of Chelsea’s title wins, netted 52 goals during his time at Stamford Bridge.“Eight position, now behind Diego Costa. Costa is the next one you need to chase down,” Terry added.

While catching Costa seems inevitable given Palmer's current form, the summit of the list remains a long-term goal.

The legendary Frank Lampard sits comfortably at the top with 147 goals, followed by Didier Drogba with 104, and Eden Hazard with 84.

If Palmer continues at his current pace, he could break into the top five by the end of next season. With the "Terry record" now in his rearview mirror, all eyes are on how quickly he can reach the 50-goal milestone.
