Xavi Simons skips training as Dutch midfielder push for Chelsea move

Although Leipzig seemed determined to keep the Dutch midfielder, recent developments suggest the transfer is now imminent.

Last season, RB Leipzig finished a disappointing 7th in the Bundesliga, missing out on European competition for the first time in nine years.

Following this underwhelming performance, several key players at the Red Bull Arena have announced their desire to leave Ole Werner's side. Among these is Xavi Simons, who despite being under contract until 2027, has made his intention to depart this summer very clear.

Chelsea quickly entered the race and appears to have reached an agreement with the player. The reigning Club World Cup champions are now negotiating the transfer fee with the German club.

Initially, Leipzig seemed determined to reject any offers from the London club. However, recent events suggest Simons's move to Chelsea is now a matter of when, not if, as reported by GSP.

On Friday, August 1st, the Dutch midfielder missed training and was subsequently left out of the squad for Saturday's friendly against Atalanta, which Leipzig lost 2-1.

Furthermore, the 22-year-old has updated his Instagram profile, removing any mention of being a Leipzig player. According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Simons's priority is a move to Stamford Bridge, ruling out any possibility of extending his contract with the German side.

Romano also indicated that discussions between the two clubs are at an advanced stage, and an official announcement is expected soon.
