Xabi Alonso breaks 65-year unwanted record in Chelsea draw against Hull City

The result means the Blues have now gone 20 consecutive Premier League games without a clean sheet, the first time they have reached that mark in 65 years.

Chelsea’s last shut-out in the league came in a 2-0 home win over Brentford on 17 January.

Morgan Rogers gave the hosts an early lead, but Mohamed Belloumi scored twice in six minutes either side of the half-hour mark to put the newly promoted side ahead.

Joao Pedro rescued a point with a clinical finish in the 66th minute, yet the defensive problems once again overshadowed any attacking positives.

Most of this barren run belongs to former head coach Liam Rosenior, whose short and turbulent tenure was widely regarded as a disaster.

However, Alonso has shown little sign of fixing the issues since taking charge.

Despite the summer addition of highly-rated centre-back Maxence Lacroix and a switch to a back-three system designed to provide greater stability, Chelsea have still failed to keep a single clean sheet in the league under the Spaniard this season.

The Blues have conceded 9 goals in just 4 games this season, and will be desperate to end the rot when they travel to the GTech Community Stadium to face Brentford next weekend.
