Manchester United icon Paul Scholes has cast doubt on the quality of Premier League leaders Arsenal, claiming Mikel Arteta’s side would rank among the weakest champions in the competition’s history if they go on to lift the title.

The former England midfielder, widely regarded as one of the Premier League’s greatest players, suggested that Arsenal lack the elite attacking quality traditionally associated with title-winning teams.

Scholes’ comments come amid a noticeable dip in form from several of Arsenal’s key attackers. Star winger Bukayo Saka has failed to score in his last 13 appearances across all competitions, while Gabriel Martinelli has gone 13 Premier League matches without finding the back of the net.

What Scholes said

Speaking on The Good, The Bad & The Football podcast, Scholes was blunt in his assessment of the North London club.

He said, “If Arsenal win the league, this could be the worst team to win the league. If you're thinking of picking a team of the season and picking the front four, nobody from the Arsenal team gets in that.”

Scholes contrasted Arsenal’s current squad with the attacking units of previous Premier League champions, particularly highlighting Liverpool’s title-winning teams.

“Look at previous champions – Liverpool's forwards, brilliant. Possibly the only one is Saka, and I don't think he's been brilliant. He's not scored many goals this year or assists,” he added.
