World champion Oblique Seville and Tina Clayton scoop major Jamaican awards for 2025
World 100m champion Oblique Seville and silver medallist Tina Clayton have scooped major Jamaican awards for 2025.
The sprint stars were named the National Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year, respectively, at the 65th RJRGleaner Sports Foundation National Awards on Saturday night.
Seville, secured his first Sportsman of the Year title following a spectacular season. He claimed the 2025 World Championship 100m gold with a stunning personal best of 9.77s, returning a Jamaican man to the pinnacle of global sprinting for the first time since Usain Bolt's double at the Rio 2016 Olympics.
The 24-year-old was selected over Anthony Johnson, who made history by winning Jamaica's first-ever gold medal at the International Practical Shooting Confederation (IPSC) Handgun World Championship. Johnson achieved a perfect 100 percent score in the Grand Senior category for Production Optics.
In the women's category, Clayton's seamless transition to the senior level earned her the top honor. By winning 100m silver medal behind Melissa Jefferson-Wooden at the Tokyo 2025 World Championships, she prove she is ready to inherit the legacy of Jamaican sprinting greats Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, Elaine Thompson-Herah, and Shericka Jackson.
The runner-up for the Sportswoman of the Year award was Sara Misir, who earned a bronze medal in the 2025 E1 Series Championship for Team Blue Rising in powerboating. Misir also received the inaugural Breakthrough Athlete of the Year award.
Several other distinguished figures were recognized during the ceremony. The late Alvin Campbell was posthumously honored with the Chairman’s Award, while cricket legend Christopher Gayle received the Lifetime Achievement Award for his extraordinary, record-setting career.
The People's Choice Performance of the Year award, decided by public vote, went to I Dream Again, the winner of the horseracing Derby.
