William Saliba: Arteta gets massive boost as Arsenal agree new 5-year deal with star defender
William Saliba's new deal is expected to be signed in the coming days, ending speculation linking him with a move to Real Madrid.
The 24-year-old has been a key figure in Arsenal's defence over the last two seasons, helping the club maintain the best defensive record in the Premier League.
He made 51 appearances last term as Mikel Arteta's side finished second in the league for the third straight season and reached the Champions League semi-finals.

The France international had previously expressed his desire to stay with the club. Speaking in July about the contract situation, he said: "Yes, hopefully — of course, there is nothing now, but there is a good conversation with my agent and the club. Let’s see.”
His decision follows a number of other recent contract renewals at the club, including his defensive partner Gabriel, forward Leandro Trossard, and academy players Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly.
Meanwhile, summer signing Eberechi Eze opened his account in the 2-0 Carabao Cup win over Port Vale.
Arsenal has lost just one game this season, a 1-0 defeat to Liverpool, and will now travel to Newcastle for a tricky fixture on Sunday afternoon before hosting Olympiacos in the Champions League.
