Why I refused to change Super Eagles tactics against Ivory Coast: Jose Peseiro finally explains

Nigeria lost 2-1 to Ivory Coast in the AFCON 2023 final and head coach Jose Peseiro came under heavy criticism for his tactics during the game.

After the game, Peseiro was asked why the team sat back and absorbed so much pressure after going one goal up.

He replied: “When you have a system that you have been using and it has been working, you really don’t want to change it.

“It is true that I kept to this strategy until we were 2-1 down and then I decided to change it. 

“We conceded goals from some defensive errors and they had a drop in level, against the Ivorians.”
