Nigeria’s failure to qualify for the expanded 48-team 2026 FIFA World Cup has continued to spark outrage among football supporters, especially after Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) president Ibrahim Gusau attended the official draw in Washington, D.C.

The Super Eagles were eliminated last month after a heartbreaking 4–3 penalty defeat to DR Congo, confirming a second consecutive absence from the tournament since their first participation in 1994.

Despite the setback, Gusau was present at the draw inside the prestigious John F. Kennedy Centre, an appearance many Nigerians believe was poorly timed and insensitive.
