Manchester United suffer defeat against West Ham

Manchester United fell to their second Premier League defeat in a row as West Ham claimed a 1-0 win at the London Stadium, and the main talking point again was De Gea’s blunder, which allowed a weak effort from Said Benrahma to trickle into the net to give the Hammers a crucial win.

The win took West Ham to 37 points in the league, almost ensuring that they will be playing Premier League football next season, and they will have Manchester United’s number one, De Gea to thank for the three points won.

De Gea error equals season’s worst

With the error against West Ham, De Gea joined Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris as the Premier League goalkeeper with the most errors leading directly to a goal in all competitions.

It was De Gea’s fourth such error this season, and the Spanish goalkeeper could be on his way to losing his number-one spot at Manchester United if the trend continues.

De Gea could leave the Red Devils for free at the end of the season if he does not get a new deal and the club decide not to activate the one-year extension clause in his current contract.

That is unlikely to happen, however, as talks are currently ongoing for an extension for De Gea at Manchester United, with reports being positive about the hope of an agreement soon.
