We will not stop! - Real Madrid's Rodrygo fires back at racists following Brazil vs Argentina game
Real Madrid forward Rodrygo is the latest footballer to suffer despicable acts of racism, as his social media handle was rained down upon with bigoted comments.
The 20-year-old, similar to his compatriot and Real Madrid teammate, Vinicius, is choosing to take it head on, however, and has put out a statement to that effect.
What Rodrygo said
The former Santos winger was involved in Brazil’s CONMEBOL World Cup qualifier defeat to Argentina. Following the heated clash between the South American giants, Rodrygo was subjected to racist abuse.
The winger put out the following statement: “Racists are always active. My social networks were invaded with insults and all kinds of nonsense.”
“If we don't do what they want, if we don't behave as they think we should, if we wear something that bothers them, if we don't lower our heads when we are attacked if we occupy spaces that they think is theirs, racists take action with all this criminal behaviour. But it’s their bad luck; we will not stop!”
Los Blancos showed via their social media that the 20-year-old midfielder is back training after healing from his injury. His injury will be received like water in a desert, as the 14-time Champions League winners were recently hit with injuries to two of their crucial players, Vinicius Jr. and Eduardo Camavinga.
Real Madrid will hope Bellingham’s return offsets the loss to some extent, and he could be back in action as early as their next LALIGA game against Cadiz this weekend.
