‘We have to work on that’ - Alonso discusses Alexander-Arnold’s Real Madrid role
Xabi Alonso has shared his anticipation for an intense encounter in Real Madrid's second Club World Cup match against Pachuca and has spoken about new signing Trent Alexander-Arnold.
The coach expressed his desire for his team to play effectively and secure a win. Following their 1-1 draw with Al-Hilal in their first round of fixtures, Alonso emphasised the need for a more positive impression and a complete performance, both with and without possession.
The former Bayer Leverkusen boss was also complimentary of Alexander-Arnold, who joined from Liverpool this month.
What Alonso said
Discussing the Englishman’s position, Alonso highlighted his versatility, noting that Alexander-Arnold is a distinct type of full-back, capable of moving infield to link up with teammates.
“He's done it for Liverpool and the National Team,” said the Real boss. He's a different type of full-back, he doesn't just stay wide.
“He can come inside a bit and link up with his teammates. What happens around him is important.
“We have to work on that, but having that right boot of his and his understanding of the game is very positive."
