‘We had our first discussion’ - Fenerbahce defender reveals plan on how to stop Osimhen ahead of derby
Osimhen has been in exceptional form this season, scoring 14 goals in 17 matches for both Galatasaray and the Nigerian national team.
However, his participation in the derby is uncertain after he picked up an injury while playing for the Super Eagles during the 2026 World Cup qualifying playoffs.
Battling an injury, Osimhen faces a race against the clock to be fit for the vital match scheduled at the Şükrü Saracoğlu Stadium.
Škriniar highlights plan to stop Osimhen
Having faced the former Napoli forward six times in his career, with a record of one win, three draws, and two losses, Škriniar is well-acquainted with Osimhen's capabilities.
The defender emphasised that Fenerbahce must maintain a tight, organised defensive line and deny the Nigerian striker any space to operate.
Škriniar also stressed the importance of remaining vigilant against other attacking threats, such as Mauro Icardi.
In comments reported by Turkish sports publication Fanatik, he detailed the team's approach. "We had our first discussion about Galatasaray today and will have video analysis meetings tomorrow," Škriniar said.
"We hadn't focused on this match before because for us, the next game is always the most important one."
He added, "Icardi and Osimhen are both very good strikers. What we need to do is be compact, aggressive, and united so we can stop them."
A victory against their Istanbul rivals on Monday would propel Fenerbahce to the top of the league table after fourteen matches.
