We don't just want to be African Champions - Super Falcons captain Ajibade
Rasheedat Ajibade has declared that Nigeria's Super Falcons are determined to elevate their status from continental champions to genuine global contenders on the world stage.
The Super Falcons are Africa's most decorated women's national team, boasting an impressive 10 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) titles.
They also hold the distinction of having qualified for every edition of the FIFA Women’s World Cup, reaching the Round of 16 in the most recent tournament.
What Ajibade said
Despite their continental dominance, Ajibade insists the team is hungry for more and wants to be recognised among the world's elite.

"Firstly, as players, we are ready, we focus on football. We now hope that we can work together with the federation to make sure that the team is able to perform well on the global stage, at the World Cup," Ajibade said.
"We’re saying: 'We don’t just want to be African champions anymore. We want to be global contenders.' We want to make sure that we surpass the level that we hold. Because we know we have the quality and the talent."
Focus on WAFCON 2026
The Super Falcons recently secured their place at the 2026 WAFCON finals with a 3-1 aggregate victory over the Benin Republic. The tournament will carry added significance as it also serves as the qualifier for the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup, increasing the pressure on all participating nations.
