‘We don't deserve to win’ - Haaland makes blunt assessment of his team’s performance against Monaco
The Premier League giants were held to a 2-2 draw by Monaco in France after surrendering a two-goal lead in the game.
The Man City striker scored two first-half goals to put his team in the lead, but Monaco fought back to secure a draw.
The Norwegian star was blunt in his assessment after City failed to secure a fifth consecutive away win in the Champions League.
What Haaland said
Haaland, who scored both of City's goals, has refused to look for excuses for the result and claims they were not good enough.
"Of course it doesn't feel good; we didn't win," he said in his post-match interview, via Daily Mail. "We did things unnecessarily in the second half and I don't think we played well enough. We don't deserve to win, and that's why.
"Energy. We need more energy. We need to get at them more, as we did in the first half. We dominated much more than in the second half, they took the advantage and I don't think it's good enough."
The match boiled over when Monaco were awarded the late penalty, which Dier coolly converted by sending Gianluigi Donnarumma the wrong way.
The decision, made after referee Jesus Gil Manzano consulted the VAR monitor, sparked a brawl involving players and staff.
"I didn't see it again. If you kick someone in the face, I guess it's a penalty. But I don't know, I didn't see it."
"Every Champions League game is tough," he continued. "Look at last year—we went out. So yeah, every single game is tough, and there aren't many teams, who won their first two games. That's how it is."
