‘We can trample on any team’ - Osimhen warns other teams as they prepare to face Mozambique
The 27-year-old Galatasaray forward has been a key figure for Nigeria, featuring in all three group stage matches in Morocco.
He even captained the side in their 3-1 victory over Uganda, a significant milestone for the Lagos-born star.
Having secured their place in the round of sixteen, the three-time AFCON champions are set to play Mozambique, and Osimhen's confidence in his squad is at an all-time high.
Osimhen speaks ahead Mozambique clash
Osimhen believes the Super Eagles are one of the continent's top teams and that opponents should be wary of drawing them.
“Yes, I would count my country as one of the favourites. We are one of the most feared teams in this tournament,” Osimhen said.
“Any team can come and play us. If they are good, they can scale through, but if they are not, we can trample on any team because this team has got the quality to do damage to any big team.”
Despite the strong words, Osimhen stressed that the team respects every opponent and is prepared for a tough challenge in the next phase.
“We respect every team that progresses to the next round, and anyone we meet... they are going to see the fighting spirit of Nigeria,” he added.
“The round of 16 is going to be even tougher than the group stages, so the boys are ready to give everything.”
“It has been a long time since this trophy came to Nigeria, and the boys, every training, we are passing a clear message that we came here to get the trophy,” Osimhen explained.
