We are looking into it - Chelsea star Tosin Adarabioyo gives an update on Super Eagles switch
Chelsea defender Tosin Adarabioyo has indicated that he is considering playing for Nigeria in the future.
Adarabioyo, eligible to play for England or Nigeria, joined the Blues on a free transfer from Fulham circa 12 months ago.
The 27-year-old has played 39 times in all competitions for the Blues, including 22 in the Premier League and two in the Club World Cup.
The centre-back opened the scoring for Enzo Maresca's side against Esperance on Tuesday night (USA), before goals from Liam Delap and Tyrique George sealed Chelsea’s 3-0 victory.
Adrabioyo’s national team ambition
Speaking after the game in Philadelphia, Adarabioyo, 27, confirmed that a potential switch to the Nigerian national team is something he and his representatives are actively exploring.
The defender also described it as a conversation he wishes to have, acknowledging it as a future consideration.
“That is a question I have answered quite a bit recently, yeah, it is something that we are looking into in the future,” said Adarabioyo.
“It is a conversation I want to have; we will see how that goes.”
Chelsea finished the group stage on six points, one behind Flamengo, who won two and drew their final game with Los Angeles FC.
What’s next for Chelsea?
Maresca’s men will face Benfica in the competition’s last 16, seeking a place in the quarter-finals.
