Cameroon Football Federation president Samuel Eto’o delivered a powerful and emotional locker-room speech to the Indomitable Lions following their elimination from the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025, urging the players to remain proud and focus on future success.
Cameroon’s campaign came to an end after a quarter-final defeat to hosts Morocco in Casablanca, a match surrounded by controversy and intense debate over officiating decisions.
What Eto'o said
In the aftermath, a video shared on social media showed Eto’o addressing the devastated squad inside the dressing room, offering words of encouragement and belief.
Visibly moved by the players’ disappointment, the former Barcelona and Inter Milan striker praised their commitment and resilience.
“Seeing you sad, I have tears in my eyes,” Eto’o told the players. “But you accomplished it like the Cameroonians you are. I can only be proud of you.”
Eto’o went on to stress that the team’s performance had made the nation proud, placing their efforts above individual opinions.
“I know my small person represents nothing in front of the 30 to 35 million Cameroonians who are proud of you,” he said. “I tell you all thank you for all your contributions.”

The Cameroonian football icon struck a defiant and optimistic tone, insisting that the setback would serve as motivation rather than defeat.
“This is our first victory, guys, believe me,” Eto’o declared. “The next AFCON, we are coming to win it. Hear me well, boys, and start preparing from today. We will take our revenge.”
He also commended the technical crew, medical team, security personnel and officials for maintaining unity and discipline throughout the tournament, highlighting the absence of internal crises during the campaign.
“We didn’t see a group with a scandal. It’s thanks to you too,” he said, acknowledging the collective effort behind the scenes.
