[Watch]: Proud moment as Victor Osimhen shows African Player of the year award to Napoli fans
Fans of Italian champions SSC Napoli have joined to celebrate Nigerian forward Victor Osimhen as the 2023 African Player of the Year.
Pulse Sports Nigeria can report that Osimhen showed off his most coveted award to the Napoli faith at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium on Saturday.
Osimhen’s Proud Moment
The 24-year-old made history when he became the first Nigerian in 24 years to be crowned as Africa’s best player at the CAFAwards2023 in Morocco.
He was presented the award in a lavish ceremony in the Moroccan city of Marrakech 24 hours before he helped Napoli end a run of three consecutive defeats against SC Braga in the UEFA Champions League, UCL.
Osimhen’s Player of the Year award followed an excellent 12 months for his club and country.
The forward netted 26 goals to help Napoli end a 33-year wait for their first Serie A title, becoming the first-ever African to win the Capocannoniere in Italy.
Napoli fans celebrate with Osimhen
Just before the game against Cagliari, the latest Napoli hero took out time to present his African award to the fans.
According to a video shared on the social media platform, Instagram, by the Serie A’s official account, the Nigerian was accompanied by his family.
“Super Victor Osimhen, Player of the Year,” the Serie A captioned the video.
Osimhen went on to deliver a masterclass against the visitors as he opened the scoring and assisted the winner in a 2-1 win against Cagliari late Saturday.
He has now scored seven and assisted two goals in 13 matches this season in the Serie A for Napoli.
