There was an air of shock and surprise as the old national anthem was played before the kick-off of the World Cup qualifiers between Nigeria and Benin.
The Super Eagles players were spotted listening to the old national anthem, 'Arise O’compatriots,' instead of the newly introduced 'Nigeria we hail thee,' before the World Cup qualifier against Benin on Monday in Abidjan.

Recall that the Federal Government of Nigeria approved a reversal of the national anthem to the one composed in the 80's.
The bill was signed on May 29, 2024, on the one-year anniversary of the incumbent President Bola Tinubu.
