Video: Senegal, Ivory Coast put on show to knockout DR Congo and Uganda

It was entertainment galore in Group B at the African Nations Championship, CHAN, as favourites Senegal and Ivory Coast booked their tickets to the last eight.

A total of seven goals were scored in the last round of matches in the group, an average of over three goals per game.

Senegal thrashed DR Congo 3-0 to win the group while their Ivorian counterparts were too good for Uganda after a 3-1 win.

The stars of the show

Teranga Lions of Senegal ensured their journey in CHAN 2022 will continue following an emphatic performance against ten-man Congo, who had Kevin Mundako sent off.

Senegal defeated the two-time winners in their final match played at the 19 May 1956 Stadium in Annaba to secure their place in the knock-out stage of the ongoing tournament in Algeria.

Osmane Diouf's first-half strike had the Lions on their way to victory before two more goals in the second half from 18-year-old Pape Diallo and an own goal by Siadi Baggio ensured the West Africans finished at the top.

Senegal finhsed as group winners.

It was a thrilling game at the new Nelson Mandela Stadium in Algiers as a Karamoko Sankara-inspired Ivory Coast sent home a stubborn Ugandan side.

Two quick goals from Sankara, who also assisted the winner, and Patrick Ouotro gave the Ivorians a 2-0 lead in the opening 27 minutes.

Moses Waiswa pulled one back for the Cranes heading into the break but Ivory Coast sealed the win when Aubin Kramo made it 3-1 with 12 minutes left to play.

The last time Côte d’Ivoire made it to the TotalEnergiesCHAN knockout stages, they won the bronze medal.
