Victor Osimhen picks only one current Super Eagles teammate in ultimate 5-a-side team
Victor Osimhen named only Calvin Bassey from the current Super Eagles squad in his ultimate Nigerian five-a-side team, dubbing the Fulham defender as the best centre-back in Africa.
Osimhen and Bassey featured in the Super Eagles team, which finished third in the recently concluded AFCON. Both players made the official Team of the Tournament, as well as the Team of the Tournament as selected by Pulse Sports, which highlights their tremendous contributions.
Bassey, particularly, was a standout performer, receiving plaudits for his strength, defensive awareness and timely interventions. Hence, it comes as no surprise that he was the only member of the squad crop of Nigeria internationals that managed to make Osimhen’s squad of five players.

The Super Eagles star was tasked with creating a formidable squad of five players featuring past or present Nigeria internationals, with the condition that he could not include a goalkeeper.
The Galatasaray ace named Bassey first, as the defender in his team, saying, “ At the back, I will have Bassey, 100%. Not because he is my brother, but because he is actually one of the best, or the best defender in Africa at the moment.”

In midfield, Osimhen maxed out on control, technique and flair, selecting John Mikel Obi, Kanu Nwankwo and Austin JJ Okocha. In the attack, he selected Odion Ighalo, which came as no surprise, as he has regularly mentioned the former Al Hilal striker as one of his references.
Meanwhile, Osimhen is not the only one emulating Ighalo, as Manchester United’s Danish defender of Nigerian origins, Patrick Dorgu, quoted the former Watford striker after his screamer in the 3-2 victory over Arsenal at the Emirates last weekend.
