Victor is your brother — Ex-Super Eagles star slams Oliseh for Osimhen comments
However, Ex-Super Eagles star Ifeanyi Udeze countered that a single player cannot be held responsible for the entire team's performance.
In a video on his YouTube channel, Oliseh pointed to what he described as "toxicity" within the squad, specifically targeting Osimhen's interaction with Lookman during the round of sixteen match.
"Let's look at the toxicity that might have caused us (Nigeria) the AFCON title," Oliseh stated. "We are confusing talent with license. Victor Osimhen is world-class, but talent is not a license to destroy team chemistry."
Udeze slams Oliseh for Victor Osimhen comments
In response, Udeze, speaking on Brila FM, suggested that Oliseh, as a senior figure, should have offered private counsel to Osimhen rather than public criticism.
"Osimhen is a younger player than Sunday Oliseh. Sunday should have used his channel to advise the Super Eagles striker," the 45-year-old former West Bromwich Albion defender said.
"Remember, that outburst happened against Mozambique, and in the quarter-final, we played against Algeria."
Udeze dismissed the idea that the disagreement had a lasting effect, noting that the players appeared to have resolved their issues and continued to play well together.
"Ademola Lookman and Osimhen linked up well. The chemistry was there because, I think, after that game, they thrashed whatever had happened between them and moved on," Udeze explained.
"I don't think what happened between Osimhen and Lookman cost us the AFCON. I don't think so."
He concluded with a direct appeal to Oliseh: "Victor Osimhen is your younger brother. You can also use your channel to speak to him; he'll see it."
Osimhen has not yet commented on the matter. The Galatasaray striker is reportedly focused on his club's upcoming Champions League fixture against Manchester City.
