Uganda vs Nigeria: Chukwueze and Onyedika power Nigeria past Cranes — Super Eagles Player Ratings
Despite conceding a poor goal, Nigeria were dominant in their 3-1 victory against Uganda thanks to standout performances from a number of places, most prominently, Samuel Chukwueze and Raphael Onyedika.
Here is how Nigerian players performed individually against Uganda:
Francis Uzoho (5/10)
Francis Uzoho was rarely called into action, and there was little he could do to stop the goal Nigeria conceded, as Rogers Mato's shot was well placed. As a positive, he showed the right dose of dominance and aggression while claiming crosses into the area.
Ryan Alebiosu (6/10)
Alebiosu showed why many have called for Eric Chelle to hand him a start. He was solid defensively, and while he had little to do offensively, given Samuel Chukwueze's wide starting position, he combined well with the Fulham man and was secure in possession.
Igoh Ogbu (5/10)
In a game where fringe players made strong cases for themselves to replace the starters, Ogbu was an exception. While he was not necessarily terrible, he did not inspire confidence. Also, he was amateurishly drawn out of position for Uganda's goal.
Calvin Bassey (7/10)
Bassey played only the first-half and showed why he is regarded among the best centre-backs in the world. He made light work of the physical duel against Uche Ikpeazu, and his long balls to Chukwueze and passes to Raheal Onyedika were integral to both their strong performances.
Bruno Onyeamachi (6/10)
Bruno Onyemachi has a strong performance defensively, especially as it regards using his pace to match Uganda's fast forwards, and sweeping up the balls that manage to breach the Super Eagles backliine.
Raphael Onyedika (9/10)
Onyedika was the standout performer of the day, showing why many have called for him to become a more prominent member of the squad.
His passing was crisp and precise, and he made the Uganda midfielders eat from his hands. He also scored his second and third goals for the Super Eagles, two brilliant strikes underscoring his box-to-box abilities.
Fisayo Dele-Bashiru (7/10)
Dele-Bashiru was tasked with being Onyedika's more attacking midfield partner, and he interpreted the role work aplomb. He drove the Super Eagles forward and found spaces in the Uganda backline. One of his surging runs resulted in the Super Eagles' opener.
Moses Simon (6/10)
Moses Simon has a better showing that his first two games. However, he still showed some of the recurring issues. He struggled to beat his man, made poor decisions in possession and only managed a few accurate crosses.
Samuel Chukwueze (8/10)
Samuel Chukwueze was magisterial. He was playmaker supreme on the day and was handing out dimes to any of his teammate who bothered to make a run.
He registered two assists on the day, setting up Raphael Onyedika twice. His lobbed throughball also released Victor Osimhen for the attempt which got Salim Magoola sent off.
Paul Onuachu (7/10)
Onuachu showed the more technical aspect of his game today, comfortably picking up the ball from the hole and linking up with his teammates. He also scored the opener, moments after missing a gilt-edged chance.
Victor Osimhen (6/10)
Osimhen had an okay game, nothing too flashy. However, he came close to registering an assist when he put it on the plate for Onuachu; however, the Trabzonspor man saw his attempt saved by Denis Onyango
