Having fallen to Egypt in the quarter-final on Tuesday, Uganda dropped into the Classification Games to fight for Position Five but fell 3-0 to Algeria on Wednesday.

That meant they were left to fight for the seventh place with Morocco, who had lost to Nigeria in the other game.

And Thursday’s first game of the day saw the Moroccans get their revenge against the Lady Cranes, who defeated them 3-2 in their Group B encounter earlier in the tournament.

The two sides were fighting for the seventh spot, and the North Africans won the contest 3-1 to finish the tournament on a high.

Morocco started on the front foot and took a tightly contested first set 26-24 before adding the second 27-25.

With their backs against the wall, Uganda rallied back in the third frame to take it 26-24 and stretch the game into the fourth set.

But despite a spirited fight, the Lady Cranes fell short, losing the set 25-22 to settle for eighth place in the tournament.

Uganda leaves the stage with three wins and five losses, and head coach Tonny Lakony will look to build on that going into future engagements.

Before the tournament, Uganda’s best placement was ninth spot registered in 2009. There is now an improvement by one position.
