Paris Saint-Germain punish Atalanta in Champions League after Ademola Lookman left out of squad
Paris Saint-Germain began their Champions League title defence with a commanding 4-0 victory over Atalanta, punishing the Italian side, who were without Ademola Lookman after leaving him out of the squad.
The match burst into life early as Marquinhos scored inside three minutes with a close-range finish after a sweeping move.
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia then doubled the lead just before halftime, unleashing a spectacular strike from outside the box.
Early in the second half, Nuno Mendes made a powerful run into the box and held off a challenge to slot in a third goal at the near post.
Later, Goncalo Ramos capitalised on an underhit back pass to calmly dink the ball over the onrushing goalkeeper, sealing a dominant 4-0 win for the hosts.
PSG’s display was a reminder of why they are the reigning European champions, starting their campaign much as they ended the previous season, dominant and totally in control.
Atalanta’s goalkeeper, Marco Carnesecchi, was largely responsible for limiting the damage to just a few goals, while a missed penalty by Bradley Barcola represented the only blot on PSG’s record.
Atalanta’s absence of star forward Ademola Lookman was notable. The Nigerian winger was dropped from the squad, a decision that left the team lacking firepower and creativity.

Despite their effort and determination, which was demanded by brave coach Ivan Juric before the match, Atalanta struggled to break down a well-organised PSG defence and will look to bounce back when they face Club Brugge in two weeks.
For PSG, the dominant performance sends a clear message to Europe: they are ready to defend their crown with a swashbuckling attacking style and a rock-solid defense.
For Atalanta, the focus now shifts to regrouping and securing their first points in the group stage.
