Tunisia vs Uganda: Carthage Eagles push Nigeria off top spot in Group C with convincing victory over Cranes
Tunisia secured a dominant 3-1 victory over Uganda in their Group C opener to leapfrog Nigeria into the top spot.
A brace from Copenhagen midfielder Elias Achouri helped the Carthage Eagles to a commanding victory, with Ellyes Skhiri scoring the opener for Tunisia, while Denis Omedi scored a consolation for Uganda.
Tunisia vs Uganda: How it happened
Tunisia made a powerful statement in Group C as they swept aside Uganda, determined to avoid a repeat of their winless AFCON 2023 group-stage exit.
The Carthage Eagles started brightly and were rewarded inside 10 minutes when Ellyes Skhiri’s header from a Hannibal Mejbri corner struck the post before deflecting in off Aziz Kayondo on the goal line to give Tunisia an early lead.
Buoyed by the opener, Tunisia controlled proceedings and eventually doubled their advantage just before half-time. A swift attacking move ended with Achouri producing a superb first-time volley into the top-right corner, giving Uganda a mountain to climb at the break.
The second half began at a slower tempo, but Tunisia reasserted themselves after the hour mark. Jamal Salim parried Abdi’s effort, only for Achouri to react quickest and tap into an empty net for his second goal of the match, effectively ending the contest.
Uganda struggled to respond, with Denis Omedi’s speculative long-range effort drifting narrowly wide their best chance.

Omedi did grab a late consolation in stoppage time via a heavily deflected strike, but it did little to change the outcome.
Tunisia claimed a comfortable victory to move top of Group C on goal difference, while Uganda slumped to the bottom after another blunt attacking display, failing to score for the third time in 11 internationals.
