Manchester City have intensified their pursuit of England centre-back Marc Guehi in the January 2026 transfer window, wanting to secure him now rather than wait for his contract to expire at Crystal Palace in the summer.
Man City want Guehi
According to multiple reports, including from Fabrizio Romano, the Cityzens have already contacted Palace to express their interest, are willing to pay the £35 million, and hope to seal the deal this transfer window.
City’s urgency has been fuelled by their recent injury problems, with key defenders Rúben Dias and Joško Gvardiol sidelined for significant periods, prompting sporting director Hugo Vianna to accelerate plans for defensive reinforcement.
According to Goal, Manchester City are confident they can “reach an agreement with Crystal Palace” this month and are prepared to negotiate, believing a deal “would not be an issue” if Guehi accepts a move ahead of the summer.
Palace are understood to be open to selling during January to secure a fee rather than allowing their captain to depart at the end of the season.
Man City are not alone
Arsenal and Liverpool are also reported to be interested in the 25-year-old England international, who was previously close to a £35 million move to Liverpool in August before Palace pulled the plug on deadline day because they could not secure a replacement.
Guehi has been one of the Premier League’s standout defenders, attracting links from Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Barcelona for a free move in summer 2026, but City was to get their man before the rush at the end of the season.
