Liverpool have reportedly revived their long-standing interest in Eduardo Camavinga as they intensify planning for a major midfield reinforcement in the summer of 2026, having identified the Real Madrid star as an elite long-term solution for their engine room.

Unique opportunity for Camavinga

While Liverpool's interest in the January transfer window was not entertained by Los Blancos, according to the Daily Briefing, the Reds have positioned Camavinga as a top-tier summer target, with recruitment staff monitoring his situation closely amid growing uncertainty surrounding his role at the Santiago Bernabéu.

Real Madrid’s internal transition has strengthened Liverpool’s belief that a future deal could become feasible, particularly with managerial instability expected in Madrid, as Álvaro Arbeloa’s tenure is expected to be short-lived.

With a new manager expected to be at the helm in the summer, the future of the likes of Rodrygo and Camavinga, who have yet to truly nail starting positions for themselves, is expected to be up in the air. This is seen as a positive for their ambitions at Anfield.

Camavinga, who joined Real Madrid from Rennes in August 2021 for an initial €31 million, has since won two La Liga titles, two UEFA Champions League titles, two FIFA Club World Cups, one Copa del Rey, and two Spanish Super Cups, but has increasingly found himself rotated across multiple positions, limiting continuity in his natural central midfield role.

With Madrid open to squad restructuring in the summer of 2026, Liverpool believe Camavinga could become attainable if Los Blancos sanction a high-value sale, especially as they prepare to fund further rebuilding across their defence and attack.

Meanwhile, Camavinga is not the only top midfielder target Liverpool are pursuing. As Pulse Sports reported, they are also evaluating a move for Adam Wharton and are prepared to go as high as £80 million. Given their activity in the summer of 2025, it is within the realm of possibility that they acquire both Wharton and Camavinga.
