Transfer News: Barcelona register interest Man United's ₦90 billion rated star
Barcelona have developed an interest in Manchester United defender Lisandro Martínez as a potential summer signing to bolster their back line, as the club see him as an ideal candidate to address a long-standing need for a left-footed centre-back.
Barcelona’s interest
Sources suggest Barcelona have been tracking Martínez since his Ajax days and continued monitoring him after his move to Manchester United, and are considering a move for the Argentina international in the summer 2026 transfer window
The Blaugrana’s head coach, Hansi Flick, is understood to admire Martínez’s ability to build play from the back, aggression in duels, and tactical intelligence, which equips him to play in his demanding highline which the likes of Ronald Araujo have struggled with.
According to Caught Offside, Manchester United want to keep Lisandro but might be open to a sale in the region of €55 million amid growing frustrations with the Argentine’s battles with injuries.
Martinez at Manchester United
Martínez joined Manchester United from Ajax in July 2022, signing a five-year contract running until June 2027 with the option of a further year. He has made more than 100 appearances across all competitions, but his time in England has been punctuated by a series of injuries, including an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear in February 2025, which kept him out for a lengthy period.
Barcelona’s interest is partly driven by his contract nearing expiration, as it makes him more accessible than their first-choice option, Alessandro Bastoni. They have also been linked to Borussia Dortmund’s Nico Schlotterbeck and Sporting’s Goncalo Inacio.
