They won't make it because they signed Osimhen — Expert sounds warning to Galatasaray
Turkish football analyst Ertem Şener has warned that Galatasaray will not go beyond the group stages of the Champions League because they have constructed their squad poorly.
The Cim-Bom recently obliterated their transfer record with the €75 million signing of Nigeria's Victor Osimhen, which followed the earlier acquisition of Leroy Sane.
Osimhen, Sane, Mauro Icardi; this is a likely front three for the Cim-Bom next season, a quality that many top European teams will salivate for. Still, they have other squad issues which they have yet to solve.
What Sener said
As Pulse Sports reported, Galatasaray are only permitted to spend around €130 million this season, and they have already spent most of it signing Victor Osimhen.
Hence, they have struggled to match Manchester City’s ask for Ederson and are searching for low-cost options to solve their problems in positions in midfield and defence.
Sener argued that this would cost the Cim-Bom dearly next season, speculating that they will not reach the knockout stage of the competition.
“Galatasaray has given up on Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson. They have turned their attention to Safonov and Sommer. Donnarumma is not coming. That is a difficult task,” he said, per GsGazette.
"Don't get me wrong, but Galatasaray can't even make the top 24 in the Champions League with this squad. There's no goalkeeper, no reserve centre-back, no right-back, no reserve midfielder. The management gave all the money to Osimhen, but other areas were left wanting.”
