On Sunday evening, Real Madrid secured a 2-1 victory over Barcelona in a tense match held at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Real Madrid extended their lead at the top of La Liga to five points, thanks to a winning goal from Jude Bellingham. 

The English midfielder also provided a sublime through ball to assist Kylian Mbappe for the opening goal.

Wenger speaks about Barcelona’s performance 

Speaking on beIN SPORTS, via Metro, Wenger praised Real Madrid's tactical setup while criticising Barcelona's lack of cutting edge.

"Xabi Alonso balanced his team well today and overall I would say that it was a bit men against boys in some departments," the former Arsenal boss stated.

"The defensive performance of Real Madrid was much stronger than the defensive performance of Barcelona."

"Up front, Madrid always looked like they could score one more goal and Barcelona looked toothless up front with no Robert Lewandowski and no Raphinha," he explained.

"Barcelona had a lot of the ball in the second half after Mbappe missed the penalty, but they never really looked like scoring a goal."

"Today, you can see that the defence on the goal from Mbappe lacks maturity and experience," Wenger noted. 

"The performance of Barcelona lacked maturity today in decisive moments. When you want the big games, it is about dealing with important moments of the game."
