‘The leaders should be telling him’ - Rooney calls on Van Dijk to address Salah’s work ethic
Salah has failed to perform for Liverpool in his last four Premier League games, with his recent poor performance being against Chelsea.
The winger has struggled to hit the ground running like he did last season, when he won the league's highest goal scorer award.
His attitude has been questioned by Rooney, who claimed he has ignored his defensive duties in the team.
Rooney wants Van Dijk to speak to Salah
Rooney was not pleased with Salah’s performance against Chelsea, most especially not helping out defensively.
"Players like Van Dijk and Alisson—who I know wasn't playing—but the leaders in the dressing room should be telling him he needs to help out. For me, that was a worry," Rooney said, speaking on the Wayne Rooney Show. "He has looked a little bit lost this past week, in my opinion."
The former England international has asked that the Egyptian should be spoken to by the leaders in the team to contribute his quota defensively.
Salah’s role has shifted under Arne Slot, allowing him to conserve energy defensively to maximise his offensive output.
The strategy paid off last season, as Salah recorded 47 Premier League goal involvements, winning both the Golden Boot and the Playmaker Award while helping the Reds secure their 20th league title.
